The People and Culture of The Bahamas

Originally inhabited by native ‘Indians’, over the centuries the Bahamas experienced an influx of Spanish conquistadors, English puritans, fleeing American colonists, pirates, African slaves and 20th century Asian and Mediterranean immigrants. The result of this is a population containing a rich melting pot of diverse cultures and people. The main language spoken in the Bahamas is English and the natives are renowned for their hospitality and laid back approach to life.
